1. Overview

This system acts as an automated research assistant for the engineering team, providing deep technical context on any inbound prospect within minutes of a form submission.

2. Business Problem

Inbound leads lacked context. The sales team lacked the technical bandwidth to deeply analyze a prospect's technical architecture before the first discovery call.

3. Existing Workflow

Engineers would manually inspect a prospect's website, look up DNS records, check BuiltWith, and read recent technical blog posts to guess their infrastructure before a call.

4. Constraints

LLM hallucinations were a major risk. The system needed to strictly cite its sources and refuse to guess if technical data was unavailable.

5. System Architecture

An event-driven pipeline triggered via webhooks. It orchestrates headless browsers for scraping, leverages specialized APIs for technology lookup, and uses a multi-prompt LLM chain with strict JSON output schemas to synthesize the final report.

6. What SignalFoundry Built

A data pipeline that intercepts inbound form fills, autonomously researches the company's technical footprint, and generates a comprehensive technical brief using LLMs before the meeting.

7. Major Engineering Decisions

We mandated that the LLM only synthesize explicitly retrieved data, utilizing a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach restricted to the prospect's actual public footprint.

8. Deployment

Serverless functions orchestrated via a central state machine to handle the long-running asynchronous scraping tasks without holding active connections.

9. Operational Model

Pay-per-execution model with automated cost tracking and alerts if API usage spikes unexpectedly.

10. Outcome

Reduced pre-call research time from 45 minutes to 0. Increased technical alignment on first calls by providing engineers with exact architectural context.

11. Lessons

LLMs are terrible at guessing technical facts but excellent at summarizing and extracting structured entities from unstructured web scrapes when heavily constrained.
