SignalFoundry Platform
1. Overview
To deliver high-reliability systems to clients, SignalFoundry needed its own robust operational infrastructure. We engineered a proprietary platform to manage the entire lifecycle of an engineering engagement, from initial diagnostic to long-term operational monitoring.
2. Business Problem
Internal engineering operations required a scalable, unified system to manage project delivery, diagnostics, and deployment infrastructure without relying on fragmented third-party tools.
3. Existing Workflow
Previously, tracking engineering engagements required context switching between Notion (for documentation), linear (for tracking), and disparate AWS consoles for infrastructure monitoring. This fragmentation created risk during handoffs.
4. Constraints
The system needed to be highly secure, as it handles sensitive client infrastructure details, and it needed to be extensible enough to support future automated deployment agents.
5. System Architecture
A monolithic Next.js application backed by PostgreSQL, deployed on containerized infrastructure. The system uses a strict event-driven architecture for state changes to maintain a verifiable audit log of all engineering activities.
6. What SignalFoundry Built
A central operational nervous system combining custom CRM capabilities, automated CI/CD provisioning pipelines, and internal engineering observability dashboards.
7. Major Engineering Decisions
We chose to build a monolith rather than microservices to reduce operational complexity. We prioritized strong static typing and deterministic state machines for all core business logic.
8. Deployment
Deployed via automated container orchestration with zero-downtime rollouts and automated rollback triggers based on error rates.
9. Operational Model
Fully managed internal system with automated daily backups, continuous integration testing on every commit, and comprehensive telemetry for performance degradation.
10. Outcome
Eliminated 14 hours of manual project overhead per week. Consolidated 4 SaaS subscriptions into a single deterministic internal platform.
11. Lessons
Building internal tools with the exact same rigor as client production systems is expensive upfront but pays massive compounding dividends in operational velocity.
